Empowering Stateless Youth: A Creative Approach to Understanding Identity

Rohingya Identity
The statelessness faced by the Rohingya community is a crisis that spans generations. In a groundbreaking collaboration with the European Network on Statelessness (ENS), we led a creative workshop with Rohingya youth in Bradford to deepen their understanding of their own statelessness and its global implications. The project engaged young people between the ages of 10 and 18 in exploring the root causes of their statelessness and how it affects their lives, both in the UK and beyond.
By combining storytelling, education, and critical thinking, the workshop enabled the youth to not only reflect on their own experiences but also connect with broader global struggles for nationality and human rights. It empowered the next generation of Rohingya to become advocates for their own rights and the rights of other displaced communities. The project revealed the deep pride these young people have in their identity as Rohingya, while also igniting their passion for justice and advocacy.
This initiative has made a lasting impact by equipping the youth with the knowledge and confidence to challenge the injustices they face, highlighting the importance of raising awareness and fostering youth-driven advocacy in the fight against statelessness. It underscores the power of education and community engagement in addressing one of the most pressing human rights challenges of our time.
